After School Program
Welcome to the Barack Obama Charter School After School Enrichment Program!

Why are After School Programs so important? After School Programs are important because they help to aid you in the supervision and development of your children. Studies show that unsupervised children are more likely to experiment with sex, drugs and alcohol or become victims of crime.

Why is our After School Program unique? Our After School Program is unique because it involves enrichment activities that help to provide support for what your child is learning in class every day.  Classes that help to strengthen your child academically would include: foreign language, mad science, mental math, creative writing, geography, etc.  We also provide classes that help teach life skills such as gardening, yoga, cooking, etc. Physical education classes help to keep your child healthy and fit, these are: gymnastics, yoga, dance, cheer, sports, etc. And last but not least, the creative classes, which most often are the first to get cut when school budgets are suffering. These classes include: music related classes, visual arts and performing arts.

During the course of the school year, your child will attend a variety of these different classes. These classes will run on a 9 week (quarterly) schedule. Many of them will repeat, giving your child the opportunity to take it again. Some will change completely so that we can offer a variety to all of our students. Your child will also participate in a mandatory homework period, where qualified tutors will be available to assist your child on his or her homework and in strengthening his or her weaknesses. Our goal in the AS Program is that every child has completed his or her homework before going home. That way, you can spend more time with your child in the evening.

After School Program Schedule. Please visit the schedule page to see classes. Our schedule runs from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Students start out with a 25 minute break and a nutritious snack. They attend the first block from 3:25pm to 4:35pm and the second block is from 4:40pm to 5:45pm. Parents will pick up their children between 5:45pm and 6:05pm.  Please see the AS Program Director, Ms. Lether,  for an individual schedule that is specific to your child. Please note that the schedule may have minor changes to it from time to time but for the most part, it will remain the same for the rest of the quarter.
